Dedication

Elizabeth Sanden

y wife, Elizabeth, has been, for thirty-two years, my closest associate and dearest friend — an inexhaustible source of inspiration and encouragement. In addition to these roles, she has been a loving wife, the exemplary mother of my two beautiful children, and the supportive bulwark to a wide network of friends and family. Elizabeth's brilliant skills as a painter first brought her to my attention, but she has never hesitated to place the needs of others ahead of her desire to develop her artistic talents. This has led her to major in motherhood (when that was urgently needed) and to serve — for years — as the inspiring Teaching Director of a large women's Bible study group in Connecticut, when that calling seemed most needed. Elizabeth gave me the title for this book, and her personal beauty provided the inspiration for an entire series of highly personal paintings you will find elsewhere on this site - which her modesty forbad me to exhibit (with several exceptions) for three decades. She has now agreed to let me share these images of her with the world.
