Howard Chandler Christy had a long, colorful, and varied
career. He was one of America's most distinguished illustrators,
appearing regularly in the major national magazines.
His popular image of American womanhood became known
as the "Christy Girl." Later he turned to
portraiture, and his sumptuous, painterly style was
in great demand. Among his famous subjects were Mrs.
Calvin Coolidge, Amelia Earhart, and Mrs. William Randolph
Hearst. Christy was also known for his colorful murals
and vivid historical paintings, the famous of which,
"The Signing of the Constitution," hangs in
the United States Capitol..
