"To fulfill this commission I traveled to Atlanta, Georgia. This time
I stayed with a wonderful family in their home. In all, I painted four grandchildren
for this couple. Here is an example on one of the grandchildren and I wanted
to emphasize her hands. To me they were quite important. The placement of
her little fingers seemed charming to me and I wanted to portray them as
a cue for her lovely disposition. The color and texture of her bright pink
dress with its pretty eyelet lace ruffles and pink bow at the waist all
added to the sense of her personality. The palette knife was used predominately
in the hair and fabric while the background is very plain to contrast with
the vibrant sitter." A.B. |
