It was such a joy to paint her wearing a very Southern looking dress. The embroidery and detail are so lovely—such finesse. Also, since I enjoy painting flowers, I deliberately had her holding a few small ones in her hands. The sheer see-through sleeves were a pleasurable aspect of the sitter's delicate nature. I intentionally varied the background from light to dark keeping the emotional tone of the painting soft and youthful." A.B.
