"I was particularly taken with the shirt on this little boy. The pink color of the shirt with it's grayed down stripes make an interesting element in the painting. The hair gave me the opportunity to move from dark to light giving beautiful form to the head. Here I used raw umber and yellow ochre with white to emphasize highlights. The background simply modulates from light to dark using the same pigments of blue and umber. " A.B.
