"This beautiful brunette was one of the most intriguing sitters I have ever painted. I was struck by her coloring, dark hair and bright blue eyes. I felt that there was very little I could do to improve the lovely feeling of the painting but to be faithful to the model." A.B.
This painting was done at a time when the public was very aware of the dangers of kidnapping which was unfortunately popular at the time. For this reason artists were reluctant to entitle their paintings with the subjects' names. Ariane portrayed many famous people's children and this is one such example. N.M.S.
