- 20 -                                                           "This lovely 8 year-old girl was from San Antonio, Texas. Her light brown hair was painted with burnt sienna, raw umber, yellow ochre and white. Because this is a three-quarter figure painting I wanted the background to be as simple as possible but to create a contrast from light to dark within the background. Behind the light side of her face is the darkest blue of the background and behind the dark side of her face is the lightest blue of the background. This gives three dimensionality to the figure and a sense of the child being in the midst of an atmospheric environment." A.B.
