- 13 -                               "Similar to her sister (portrait #2) this portrait of a beautiful little girl from the South introduces an array of richly embroidered fabric and lace. Here the painting adds the use of a full pink rose with its green stem and leaves. Like her sister this little girl has a large ribbon in her hair giving me the opportunity to paint satin with all its shine and reflection. Also like her sister the expression on her face is deliberately contemplative. Their mother was adamant about their not smiling and in retrospect I agree.” A.B.
